When Barb’s daughter started pre-school and she started packing lunches for her, she asked the teacher what other kids had in their lunch boxes to give her ideas. The teacher said that her lunchbox was the benchmark, so she decided to photograph the lunchbox daily to give other mums ideas on what to include in their kids' lunches. Her daughter Lulu was not partial to sandwiches for a while which led to her having to be creative in what she put in the lunchbox to ensure protein for health, carbs for energy and liquid for hydration. With Lulu’s fluctuating tastes (like any normal kid aaargh!!!) she tailors and adapts the contents to suit this and the family’s lifestyle but always aiming for fresh, healthy, home made food where possible, preferably packaging free. And now that her son Tyga has started needing packed lunches too, his is included on the days he is at Pre School as well! Her facebook page, Lulu's Lunchbox, is constantly growing in supporters as Barb inspires mums all over the world to get their kids eating healthy!
Being a passionate supporter of healthy food for kids (a bit hard to believe given her kitchen is always filled with cakes!), her children’s lunchboxes are a testement to her practicing what she preaches. With limitations of no egg (Tyga) or nuts (both of them!), everyday is a challenge to provide food that is appealing to the eye and the tummy of two of her harshest critics!
Barb loves going to talk to Mother’s Groups or pre-school parent evenings to discuss healthy food and lunchboxes for kids from a mum’s perspective.
